I'm in Iowa and the garage temp stays between 30-40 in the winter. I was tired of tripping over twisted air hoses and ordered this from Amazon based on good reviews. Ironically, after I purchased it, I discovered that the Legacy company is only 10 miles from where I live in Iowa. I use it in a garage to work on cars primarily. I've had no problems with malfunctions in "cold" temperatures that some have mentioned. Overall, it does what it's supposed to do. What else can you ask for.
At temps below about 50 I cannot even get the hose to retract because it doesn't want to bend. The vinyl hose becomes unmanageable in cooler weather. I am in Austin Texas which doesn't get that cold. At cooler temps the hose develops a lot of memory to where it is difficult to use. I have about given up on using it until April or so.
Product easy to set up and works wonderfully, I had a smaller one - this is much better.
The unit works very good but the air hose is cheap junk. be prepared to buy a good quality air hose that will work in cold areas.
It makes the workshop safer since there is no hose on the floor to trip over.Be careful threading the center hub hose connector. I saw this type of reel used in automotive garages and used to say "one day I will get one, when I can afford it." well, I finally find a very good quality retractable hose reel that I can afford. Overall, a very good, practical and affordable unit. Do not let the plastic housing worry you, it is strong enough. I mounted mine in the rafters of my garage/workshop and it is a delight to use. I recommend it for the typical DYIer. I am now considering one for the garden hose.
